Earth Day - Protect Our Species

ACCC, Manimutharu has organized Earth Day 2019 along with Tamil Nadu Forest Department, Tirunelveli Division and District Science Centre, Tirunelveli on April 21 and 22, 2019. Two programs were conducted, namely Wall Painting and Leaf Zoo for the school children in order to create awareness about the protection of Earth especially on the Earth Day 2019 theme ‘Protect Our Species’. 50 students led by Ganeshan. M, Founder Director, Sivaram Kalaikoodam, Tirunelveli belonging to various schools and college along with their family members participated in this program. The participants painted the lesser known species unique to Kalakad -Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, Tirunelveli on the walls of District Forest Office, Tirunelveli namely Jungle Guava, Malabar Tree Nymph, Red-Giant Snail, Flat-faced Seahorse, Chalazodes Bubble-nest Frog, Fan-throated Lizard, Green Sea Turtle, Flame-throated Bulbul, Nilgiri Marten and awareness painting on Big four Snakes, Snake Bite Prevention, Snake Bite first-aid, Anti-venom Treatment and Forest fire. These wall paintings were expected to create awareness about the importance of wildlife among three to four lakh viewers in the next three years. 

On April 22, 2019 thirty-five passionate participants of 11 to 15 years age group participated in the ‘Leaf Zoo Competition’ at District Science Centre, Tirunelveli. They created a variety of creatures namely elephant, fishes, butterflies, birds, etc. with leaves. In the valedictory function held on 22^nd April, 2019 evening, Mr. Thirumal, IFS, the District Forest Officer and Wildlife Warden, Tirunelveli Division and Mr. S. Muthu Kumar, District Science Officer, District Science Centre, Tirunelveli felicitated the gathering and distributed the certificates and mementoes for the Leaf Zoo Competition winners and the wall painting participants. Mr. M. Ganeshan, Founder Director, Sivaram Kalaikoodam, Tirunelveli received a special certificate of appreciation from the Guests of Honor for his effort taken for the wall painting.
